FINAL EVENT: DELIVERING SOLUTIONS FOR THE WATER-ENERGY NEXUS (HYBRID)

The closing event of the project took place in Trinity Business School, Dublin. This event celebrated the research-based achievements, marked the closure of the project, and looked ahead to the continuing transition towards net zero water systems. MANAGING A TRANSDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH PROJECT

The last of the webinar part of the Sustainability Series reflected on the the experience of managing a transdisciplinary research project like Dwr Uisce, illustrating research approach, learning and insights. As well it featured DUVis, a bespoke visualisation tool built to visualise the project metadata with particular emphasis on the collaborations established during the project and the level of engagement with non-academic partners.

The seventh webinar of the free Sustainability Webinars Series covered the opportunities and challenges of recovering heat from wastewater in industrial processes. You can watch the recording to hear from idustry representatives and Dwr Uisce researchers about what has been done and what else could be done. You also get a chance to virtually visit one of the sites used in the study.
Launch Event at Penrhyn Castle - Official opening of our Drain Water Heat Recovery System

The launch event of the Drain Water Heat Recovery system was held in Penrhyn Castle and virtually online, with presentations from representatives of National Trust, Bangor University and Trinity College Dublin. A guided tour of the system was offered to participants at the event, while a 3D virtual tour in Mozilla Hub was facilitated for participants online.

Online The sixth webinar of the Sustainability Webinar Series took place on 05 April 2022 (rescheduled from 15 Mar 22) and was delivered on-line via Zoom. You can now watch the recording to learn the technical details of drain water heat recovery in commercial kitchens and the practical application at our demonstration site in Wales. The Heat Recovery Toolkit is also illustrated and an example is presented.

Small-scale Hydropower Installation at Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant - Official Opening
Thursday, November 21, 2019- Ty Mawr Wybrnant, Wales (UK)
This event launched a small hydropower installation from Afon Wybrnant, which is expected to generate about 19,000 kWh of clean renewable electricity per year for lighting and heating Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, saving approximately 5.2 tonnes of CO2 per year and allowing the National Trust to maintain a culturally significant collection more sustainably.
Blackstairs GWS Official Opening
Thursday, May 2, 2019 - Rathnure, Co. Wexford, Ireland
The official opening of our micro-hydropower energy recovery demonstration site Blackstrairs GWS was held on the 2nd May 10-2pm. The opening event of the site was hosted by Trinity College Dublin, in collaboration with our partners Blackstairs Group Water Scheme, EPS, the National Federation of Group Water Schemes, and Bangor University. The event featured an official opening of the hydropower turbine preceded by a presentation about the development of hydropower project at the site, from concept to installation. The event included guests from different academic, industrial and public organizations associated with the project. The attendees were taken to the treatment works for a site tour, while presentations were held in the local community centre. The project has been made possible through the ERDF Interreg Ireland Wales Programme (2014-2020).
2nd Annual Dwr Uisce Water & Energy Conference

The second annual Dwr Uisce conference was hosted by Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. The theme of this year's conference was 'Water–Energy Innovation' and it aims to address the challenges we face in relation to water and energy demands in our region. The programme was divided into three sessions: "Innovation Opportunities", "Innovation Practice" and "Demonstrating Learning". The event featured a variety of guest speakers from industry, water and energy suppliers, community services and our researchers in Ireland and Wales. We discussed historical and future trends in the water and energy sectors, updates of our research and news about the demonstration sites.
